January 2026
On Thursday, January 16th, Lorraine captivated an audience of garden club members and students from Non-Traditional Program South with an inspiring Zoom presentation. Her focus was the stunning Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, showcasing its beauty and significance.
Throughout her talk, Lorraine highlighted not only the ecological importance of the gardens but also emphasized the essential role of community involvement—both historically and in the present day—in safeguarding these natural treasures. By participating in these initiatives, community members contribute to the gardens' upkeep while gaining valuable knowledge about native plant species and their benefits, enhancing their appreciation for biodiversity and sustainability.
December 2025
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Gilda for graciously hosting our club's Christmas party on Thursday, December 11th. The evening was a delightful affair, bringing together ten attendees, including our esteemed guest, Gloria Hicks, one of the longest-standing members of our garden club. The festive atmosphere was filled with joy, and the delicious array of dishes contributed by everyone made the night truly unforgettable!
This year, rather than a traditional gift exchange, our members generously chose to bring donations for the Upper Marlboro food bank. Shortly after the party, we delivered the collected items just in time for the dedicated volunteers as they prepared for their distribution on Saturday, December 14th. In total, we contributed over $300 in cash and gift cards, along with numerous socks, mittens, and non-perishable food items. The team at the food bank was incredibly appreciative of our support!

The event was truly enjoyable, featuring stunning decorations, a delicious meal, and engaging conversations with Paint Branch members, including Sylvia Pines, the president's wife, who graciously joined us at our table.
October 2025
In October, members of the Mt. Airy Claybreakers Garden Club, alongside students from the Non-Traditional Program South, embarked on an exciting project to design and create a new outdoor classroom. The majority of the trees and shrubs planted here were generously donated by the Prince George's County, Maryland government through the "2025 Clean & Green Elevate the Scene" beautification program, supporting schools and nonprofit organizations.
September 2025
On September 2, 2025, Lorraine Leonard from the Mt. Airy Clay Breakers Garden generously provided horticulture materials to support the students of the Non-Traditional Program South in their participation in the Prince George's County Fair floral arrangement competition. Competing in the adult categories, the students showcased their creativity and skill, achieving remarkable results. Caron earned 1st place in the large floral arrangement category, while in the small floral arrangement category, Liz secured 1st place, Jamarih and Caron tied for 2nd place, and Ayanna claimed 3rd place. Their success highlights the dedication and talent of these young participants.
